Rieckermann is proud to have been a sponsor of the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Myanmar (AHK) and the German Embassy’s conference on “Industry 4.0” in Myanmar. The conference was intended to create awareness on the fourth industrial revolution and the potential for accelerated industrial development in Myanmar to face the challenges of competing in a more open market. The idea for the conference was an outcome of a workgroup on Industry 4.0 in Myanmar in July 2018, which was also organized by AHK and the German Embassy.
Myanmar has been identified to have a vast potential to leapfrog towards automation and Industry 4.0. During the conference, a whitepaper report developed by AHK, Myanmar Survey Research (MSR), and global strategy consulting firm, Roland Berger, called “Industry 4.0 in Myanmar – Leapfrogging across sectors and how to overcome the barriers” was presented. The report provided an outlook on Myanmar’s industrial and economic landscapes, opportunities and challenges, and opportunities in Myanmar to “leapfrog”, meaning to bypass inferior, less efficient, more expensive or more polluting technologies and industries and move directly to more advanced ones.
A survey conducted for the whitepaper revealed that many companies in Myanmar were open to introducing automation in their business activities. Although the country has been less active in following the industrialization of past decades, there has already been significant improvements in the telecommunication sector, banking sector, retail space, and initial smart city efforts. In the report, Rieckermann was featured as a case study for offering a flexible packaging solution, which allows manufacturers to easily change packaging depending on their needs; in the long run, increasing efficiency and output in manufacturing.
The conference was held on May 24, 2019, at Novotel Yangon Max and was attended by Her Excellency Ambassador Dorothee Janetzke-Wenzel of the German Embassy in Myanmar, His Excellency Khin Maung Cho who is the Minister for Industry of Myanmar, government officials and many participants from the private sector.
