FOSTERING INDUSTRY COLLABORATION TOWARD NET ZERO BY 2050

Rieckermann presents sustainable solutions for Vietnam’s fertilizer and chemical industry players

With the rapid growth of Vietnam’s fertilizer industry, the country now faces an increasing need to address the rate of carbon emissions from its activities. In particular, Vietnam is foreseeing a shift to sustainable technologies for the production of fertilizer and chemicals in its effort to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

To address this challenge, Rieckermann engaged with local industry players in Vietnam with a seminar on Green Ammonia and Green Technologies. Held in collaboration with their Oil & Gas partner, Casale SA – a prominent integrated solutions provider for fertilizer and chemical production – the event was attended by highly regarded experts and industry representatives from the Vietnam Oil & Gas Group (Petrovietnam), Electricity Vietnam Group, and other local fertilizer-related businesses.

Attendees were welcomed with a short address by Rieckermann’s Head of Country for Vietnam, Felix Niesmann, who expressed the company’s keen support for Vietnam’s initiatives for reaching Net Zero by 2050. Head of Center of Competence (SE Asia & India) Markus Roth further demonstrated this commitment through a brief presentation on Rieckermann’s dedicated industry solutions. He highlighted their diverse technology portfolio, one that includes commercial licensing, process plants, and process equipment tailored to the fertilizer and chemical industry segments. Other specific value propositions were green ammonia and green methanol technologies, industrial heat pump systems, and waste to energy solutions.

The cornerstone of the seminar was the technology presentation by the Casale team, consisting of experts Fabio Laurenzi (Area Sales Manager APAC), Pietro Moreo (Technology Manager), and Francesco Baratto (Head of Syngas Department). Their showcase focused on decarbonizing fertilizer and methanol plants through the implementation of Casale’s innovative blue and green ammonia technology. They also outlined their solutions for cleaner production processes of various fertilizer derivatives such as melamine, nitric acid, and ammonium nitrate NPK, ensuring a more sustainable future for the industry.

Dr. Thuan Minh Huynh, Head of the Petrochemical Technology unit of the Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI), also shared valuable insights into the green hydrogen and green ammonia value chain in Vietnam. His talk successfully shed light on the country’s potential in these areas, as well as the need to adopt relevant technologies to future-proof their production. In the light of this, Felix Niesmann took the opportunity to subsequently introduce Rieckermann’s latest global trade finance services. Characterized by tailor-made long-term loans, these services will leverage competitive EUR and/or USD interest levels with the support of various export credit agencies. Rieckermann aims to facilitate the financial aspects of procuring sustainable technologies for both local and international industry players.

In addition to gaining valuable insights from the expert presenters, attendees also had the opportunity to network and engage with fellow industry players, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange. By sharing expertise, showcasing innovative solutions, and promoting best practices, businesses should be able to contribute to Vietnam’s ambitious goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050, ultimately paving the way for a greener and more sustainable future in the country.
The Green Ammonia & Green Technologies seminar took place on June 15th, 2023, at the Lotte Saigon Hotel & Resort in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam with support from VPI.
