CONTINUOUS MANUFACTURING AND QUALITY CONTROL TECHNOLOGIES SEMINAR

Focus on significant advancements in continuous manufacturing for the pharmaceutical industry

Rieckermann recently hosted a comprehensive seminar on Continuous Manufacturing Processes, In-process, and Quality Control Technologies in collaboration with industry partners Glatt, KORSCH, Medelpharm, Pharma Technology, Sensum, Phyllon, and Ashland. With the main focus on continuous manufacturing, the event brought together numerous company representatives and industry experts to explore a range of continuous manufacturing solutions for the pharmaceutical industry.

The seminar also covered topics such as advanced in-process analytical technology (PAT), coating thickness detection, and the monitoring of critical quality attributes (CQAs) such as API content uniformity. In addition, leading experts from Ashland presented experimental results on the production of metformin hydrochloride tablets, which was successfully achieved using twin-screw continuous melting granulation and compaction process equipment on the Glatt MODCOS S-Line and KORSCH XL100. This project showcased the potential of continuous manufacturing to boost efficiency and quality.

Attendees were also treated to live demonstrations of the Glatt MODCOS dynamic continuous manufacturing line, as well as an up-close look into Sensum’s tablet and (soft) capsules inspection technologies at the venue – an expansive technology center that serves as both an exhibition space and a laboratory for the company. The active program also provided an opportunity for the attendees to network, fostering collaboration and synergy effects among pharmaceutical industry players.

Held on December 3 and 5, 2024 at Rieckermann Shanghai’s dedicated technology center, the seminar was an outstanding success, attended by over 120 participants from 60 companies. This underscores the rising importance of continuous manufacturing in the pharmaceutical industry, addressing capacity challenges and enhancing product quality through dynamic monitoring and controlled processes.
