Rieckermann hosts webinar series on concrete precast

Despite the many advantages of using precast for buildings, precast is not the common choice for construction in seismic regions. However, experts in civil engineering are challenging this belief by putting forward a new mindset that supports precast applications in seismic parts of the world. This topic, which has not as yet been embraced by many, is the main subject of the Concrete Precast Webinar Series 2021.

As your first choice industrial solution provider with over 125 years of experience, Rieckermann is hosting the webinar with the support of a task force of experts from the International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib), Petra Christian University (Indonesia), and Elematic (India). Webinar participants are able to discover the advantages of precast technology and precast design, and to discuss various topics related to concrete precast.

The first webinar of the series attracted over 350 participants from 11 countries across Southeast Asia, India, Europe, and the Middle East. The participants included owners of precast businesses, students, academics, contractors, consultants as well as the Public Works and Housing Ministry in Indonesia.

In Southeast Asia, Vietnam was quick to adopt precast applications, which has helped them to meet the fast-paced demands of their infrastructure development. According to Dr. Nguyen Khanh Son (Deputy Dean and Head of Silicate Materials Division, Materials Technology Faculty, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology), “Precast concrete is still not very popular in Vietnam compared to concrete pour-in-place solutions, but in terms of the huge need for economic infrastructure development and the ability of domestic enterprises to absorb new technologies, there exists a great opportunity for precast in the Vietnamese market so far. The recent experience of how to gradually apply this technology in a Southeast Asian country like Indonesia is a great example for us. The active participation of all stakeholders has proven itself crucial in the first step.”

For Indonesia, the industry is also beginning to embrace concrete precast and understand its benefits. According to Matthias Jonas (Head of Industry – Building Technologies, Rieckermann), “Concrete precast is raising the standard of living in Indonesia by ensuring modern safety measures in newly erupting seismic zones. The webinar lowers the burden of adopting the technology by giving answers to crucial questions like element design and connecting students with professionals.”

There are a total of seven webinars in the series, which commenced on August 28, 2021. The webinars will continue until November 2021 and Rieckermann welcomes anyone who has an interest in this topic to join and receive insights into building with precast.
